Term 2 - Week 1, 2023
Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! I hope you had a chance for a break over Easter and ANZAC Day.
Thank you everyone for the warm welcome from the Mount St John’s community this week. I am very much looking forward to being a part of the community and getting the very best for every student at the school.
It will be a short newsletter today, given our short week; however there has already been a lot happening.
The school marched in the ANZAC Day parade on Tuesday and participated respectfully in the ceremony. Thanks to our banner bearers, Finlay Moffatt and Ethan Miller, and good work from Reid Gibson who placed the wreath on the cenotaph.
On Wednesday Ms Griffiths worked with the Year 4, 5, & 6 students using the Virtual Reality headsets, exploring different worlds and developing skills. The VR set is on loan and the students will explore more before the sets move to another school.
Yesterday we had an ANZAC prayer service, reflecting with gratitude on the soldiers who have returned from service to give us the peace we enjoy today. As part of this, the whole school had an excellent talk from Mr Bill Baggett, reflecting on his time as a pilot in the Air Force and his service in Vietnam. The children listened intently as our very own Xavier Beckett played the Last Post, with Bill finishing with the Ode.
Finally, many thanks to everyone who raised money in the Colour Explosion Fun Run. The prizes were handed out yesterday, although some are on backorder.
Grace and peace,
Peter Watts
Principal
P.S. Save the date: Parent Information Night on the Resilience Project - Thursday 11 May, 5-7pm. More information will be coming soon.
Mothers' Day Fair
As you will be aware, Mothers' Day is fast approaching and this year we are holding a Mothers' Day Fair.
What is it? It is a market where children bring up to $5 to school and they have an opportunity to buy a gift for their Mother for Mothers' Day.
How does it work? We ask families to send in gifts that they have been given that maybe didn’t quite hit the mark, but that other Mums might love. These are then regifted. It is an opportunity to clean out the cupboards by regifting unopened and unused presents that you may have been given. These gifts are sent to school and then the children have an opportunity to buy a gift for their Mum.
If you have gathered items to add to our fair, please start to bring them in. Children will be making their purchases on Thursday 11th May.
Items will be sold for $5, $3, $2 and will be wrapped after children make their selection.
This is an exciting event for the children as they get to shop for their Mum independently. Remember - all items that are for sale are items that have been re-gifted and are in excellent condition. If you don’t want your donation returned to you it might be a good idea to let the children know what you are donating (just a tip from past experience).
The proceeds from our market will be sent to support Pregnancy Care in Coffs Harbour. We plan to run a similar event for Father’s Day later in the year.
Thank you for your support with this event!
