Term 1 - Week 2, 2023
Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
It has been a busy week at Mt St John’s this week. We had Dance Fever commence on Wednesday afternoon. Students are learning Dance this term as part of Creative and Performing Arts. We will have a showcase of learning on Wednesday 5th April, so parents and friends can see what the children have been learning. Some pictures are attached to last week’s newsletter.
In Week 4, the week starting Monday 20th February, I will be attending the Religious Education Conference in Los Angeles. This is a great opportunity for me as a leader within a Catholic School. My learning at this conference will transfer directly to the work we undertake with our school goals around our Mission. Sue Darby will be in charge in my absence. Paul Lee will also be working to cover some of my teaching load too. I trust you will support Sue in my absence. I will return to school on Monday 6th March.
A reminder of our welcome BBQ on Thursday 16th February, commencing at 5pm. There will be a short parent information session for each class. Dinner will be provided. We hope you can join us for this event.
Lastly, I sent an announcement about Salena Bryce through Compass earlier this week.
Salena Bryce will be finishing up with us on the 3rd March. Salena has been with us for about 10 years. She began as our cleaner and part time aide. She has worked as our Indigenous Education Worker and supported indigenous students with their Deadly Cultural Learning Plans. Salena has also been on our School Improvement Team and has supported our choir as conductor and accompanist.
We keep Salena in our prayers as she embarks on the next stage of her career. We thank Salena for her contribution to our school and wish her well.
A recruitment process will commence immediately to replace Salena.
Regards,
Nathan Trezise,
Principal

Mt St John’s School Colour Explosion
Our inaugural School Colour Explosion is happening in 2023 on Friday 24th March from 1.30pm.
We are ready to launch our School Colour Explosion as students get ready to run, walk, skip, dance or sing in a fun event filled with colour.
Supporting Fundraising for our Students - in 2023, we are fundraising for two projects:
A Basketball/ Netball court for all students, so they can learn to play these sports.
Stage 3 Canberra Camp, so that all students can attend this camp to learn about our democracy.
What is a School Colour Explosion?
A School Colour Explosion is a distance run that is untimed. On each lap of the school the runners are doused from head to toe in a different coloured powder. Runners wear white at the starting line and finish the race plastered in colour. Once the run finishes, there is a celebration with music, healthy treats and a chance for photos. We’d love parents to be involved in the School Colour Explosion too.
What are our students doing?
On Friday 24th March, students will participate in our School Colour Explosion. Each student will be encouraged to walk or run as many laps as possible of our school running course. They will be doused in colour as they complete each lap.
Each student can create their own sponsorship page allowing them to collect sponsors via www.australianfundraising.com.
Individual cohort winners will win prizes from Rebel Sport.
Term 1 Swimming Lessons each Thursday
Our Term 1 swimming program has commenced for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Swimming is a compulsory part of the PDHPE curriculum.
Students will need to bring swimmers, a towel, goggles, caps (the school can provide swimming caps for those students who don't own one), and sun shirts to school each Thursday for their lesson. There is no extra cost for swimming lessons, as the school covers the pool entry fees and payments to the swim teachers.
Students will walk to and from the pool. Please note, K - 1 students are to be collected from the pool at the end of the day each Thursday as their lesson will finish at 3:05pm. Kinder & Year 1 students catching buses will do so from Dorrigo Public School, supervised by our staff.
