Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
Yesterday I had the privilege of taking our students to Zone Athletics. The students represented Mt St John’s with pride. They tried their best and came up against some stiff competition.
I commend Jules Francis and Ethan Miller on making the 100m final. Both boys narrowly missed qualifying for the Diocesan Athletics Carnival. Their effort was remarkable, as both boys competed in the junior category for the first time and were up against older students. We look forward to seeing how they compete next year as they will be older but still in the junior category.
We congratulate Freya Wright on placing 2nd in long jump at this carnival. Freya has qualified to compete in the Diocesan Athletics Carnival. This carnival takes place in a few weeks' time; we will her well with this event.
Finally, next week we will send all families a link to ‘Tell them from me’. This is a school improvement survey. We are seeking information from parents on what is going well at Mt St John’s and what could be improved. We ask all families to complete this invaluable survey. Students in Years 4 - 6 will also be completing a survey at school.
Regards,
Nathan Trezise,
Principal
We are honoured to be on the ancestral lands of the Gumbaynggirr people. We acknowledge the First Australians as the traditional custodians of the continent, whose cultures are among the oldest living cultures in human history. We pay respect to the Elders of the community and extend our recognition to their descendants who are present.
Sports Colour Mufti Day
Next week on Friday 5th August, our school will be holding a Sports Colour Mufti Day. For a gold coin donation, students and staff may wear the colours of their favourite sports team to school. All money raised will go to Mini Vinnies to support an upcoming project. We are hoping to raise money for backpack beds for the homeless. The following are some suggestions on what you could wear on Friday:
- footy jersey
- netball uniform
- soccer jersey
- cricket uniform
- favourite team jersey
- or favourite colour of sports team e.g. blue/ maroon
Thanks for supporting our Mini-Vinnies project!

2022 Book Week & Book Fair events
2022 Book Week & Book Fair is coming up in Week 6, from 22-26 August. Thank you to Ashlee Turner, who has volunteered to be our Book Fair coordinator again this year. This year's theme is "Paws for Books". There will be a display of books available for purchase set up in the library during this week. Each Book Fair is designed to give kids access to more books they want to read, from relevant new-releases to classic award-winners. Every purchase made will benefit our school, as we receive a percentage of all sales made as free books for our library.
The students will be visiting Dorrigo Library on Wednesday 24th August to participate in some sessions with the library staff.
On Thursday 25th August, we will be holding our Book Character Dress-up Parade at 11:30am - this is great fun, with all students and staff dressing up for the day as their favourite character from a book. Time to start thinking about your costumes!
2022 Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9, in government, independent, Catholic and home schools. You must read a certain number of books to complete the Challenge. The Challenge closes for students on Friday August 19, 2022.
Congratulations to the following students, who have completed this year's Premier's Reading Challenge: Rory O, Ethan M, Tate M-T, Jules F, Lakota M-T, Cooper H, Clay B, Jordan D, Xavier B, Abbi M.
2022 Dorrigo Show Schedule Cover Competition
This year the Show Society is confident that the Dorrigo Show will be happening on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 November 2022. Therefore, we ask as many students as possible to design and submit a Cover for our Schedule Cover competition.
The theme is Women in Agriculture, and there are gift vouchers and Showbags to be won. Not to mention the prestige of having your artwork on over 1000 Covers!
The competition is now open and will close at 5 pm on 31 July 2022. Please create your artwork on A4 Portrait paper, and contact Sally Duckett at dorrigoshowpresident@gmail.com or phone 02 6657 5241 when your artwork is ready for collection.
