Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
On Monday I had the privilege of attending the Stage 3 excursion to Cascade. It was a great experience for our students as they were presented with hands-on learning in a very different setting. We came across a termite mound and the questions the students asked about reproductive practices of the queen had to be heard to be believed. Did you know that the queen lays an egg every 9 seconds! You can imagine what Dorrigo students were thinking about reproduction as they tried to grasp the concept of what was taking place in the nest.
We also learnt about leeches. Did you know that once a leech has attached itself to you, to suck your blood, it does not have to feed for 18 months? I’m happy to report that the leech that got me will not need to eat until about September next year.
We had some excellent activities that helped the Stage 3 students learn about leadership. Some key concepts they learnt about were communication, trust and support. They learnt about leadership through working in small teams to navigate the low ropes course. They needed good communication, trust and support from each other to safely navigate the obstacles. I’m looking forward to seeing them apply what they learnt as they step into leadership roles within our school this year.
Regards,
Nathan Trezise,
Principal
We are honoured to be on the ancestral lands of the Gumbaynggirr people. We acknowledge the First Australians as the traditional custodians of the continent, whose cultures are among the oldest living cultures in human history. We pay respect to the Elders of the community and extend our recognition to their descendants who are present.

Weekly Awards
Congratulations to the following students, who received class awards this week:
Chayse B - for being a part of our class discussions and taking turns.
Abby T - for great work sounding out words in writing time.
Keira T - for always doing your best in everything we do. Keep up the fantastic work.
Ruby M - for your work in multiplication. You were able to make arrays to find out the total. Well done!
Cayden W - for a great first day at Mt St John's School.
Chloe T - for bravery in a great reading effort in preparation for prayer assembly.
School Cross Country
We will be holding our school cross country in Week 10 on Wednesday 6th April, so children may want to start training now! It will be held here at school and will begin at around 9am. Family members are welcome to come along and cheer - this is always a fun day, so we are excited to be able to welcome spectators to school once again.
Easter Raffle Fundraiser
We are holding an Easter raffle again this year to raise money for those people who have been impacted by the floods. Donations of Easter eggs or other Eastery things are welcomed! Tickets will be 50c each. Tickets will go on sale in Week 9 and the raffle will be drawn on Friday 8th April.
Term 1 Swimming Program
Hopefully we will be able to hold our swimming lessons again next week!
Students will need to bring swimmers, a towel, goggles, caps (the school can provide swimming caps for those students who don't own one), and sun shirts to school each Thursday for their lesson. PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL SWIMMING GEAR IS LABELED WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME.
There is no extra cost for swimming lessons, as the school covers the pool entry fees and payments to the swim teachers. Please pack swimming gear even if the weather isn't good in the morning, as it could be fine in the afternoon.
Swimming lessons will take place each Thursday in Term 1 (weather permitting) at the following times:
Stage 3 at 1pm
Stage 2 at 1.40pm
K - 2 at 2.20pm
Students will walk to and from the pool. Please note, K - 2 students are to be collected from the pool at the end of the day each Thursday as their lesson will finish at 3:05pm. Due to Covid regulations Tracey has asked that parents pick their children up from outside the pool. K - 2 students catching buses will do so from Dorrigo Public School, supervised by our staff.
