Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
In recent weeks we have been working with students on our approach to Anti-Bullying. Today is a National Day of Action against bullying. I encourage you to read the two attachments below to learn about how we approach it here at Mt St John's.
One key learning for us all, is that it is good to talk to all students about bullying before it happens. Then if students are feeling like they are not being treated fairly or respectfully they have an idea of how to manage that.
In recent weeks we have had a focus on 'talk to please, not to tease'. This is a mantra to help students remember to use kind words with each other. We have focused on using language to encourage each other and have role-played what happens when this language is not used. We have also been teaching about 'stop, walk and talk'. This is what we expect students to do when they face problems with their peers. It is up to all of us to support our students in learning to be kind to each other and how to articulate their feelings when something happens.
Regards,
Nathan Trezise,
Principal
We are honoured to be on the ancestral lands of the Gumbaynggirr people. We acknowledge the First Australians as the traditional custodians of the continent, whose cultures are among the oldest living cultures in human history. We pay respect to the Elders of the community and extend our recognition to their descendants who are present.
Weekly Awards
Congratulations to the following students, who received class awards this week:
Billie T - for great thinking in Maths when sharing your teddies.
Charlotte B - for great effort in your daily writing and using the Word Wall.
Aurora W - for giving such thoughtful compliments to others. You always "talk to please, not to tease". Thank you.
Ethan Mac - for using the lines in his book and on his paper to write neatly. Great improvement - keep it up!
Eden G - for a big improvement in her willingness to have a go in Mathematics. A "can do" attitude which is amazing!
Ruby F - for a big improvement in reading and in her understanding of what she reads. Great job!
Abbi M - for some excellent work in being able to mentally calculate 1/2 and 1/4 of a given number between 1-100.
Willa M - for a descriptive and well-written piece about your dog Astrid.
Mary Mackillop Production
On Wednesday we hosted a performance of Mary Mackillop by Starrs Production. The production was both entertaining and engaging. The students made some impromptu appearances on stage with the actors and learned about the life of Australia's first Saint, Mary Mackillop. It was great to have some live performance back in our school.
School Cross Country
We will be holding our school cross country in Week 10 on Wednesday 6th April, so children may want to start training now! It will be held here at school and will begin at around 9am. Family members are welcome to come along and cheer - this is always a fun day, so we are excited to be able to welcome spectators to school once again.
Easter Raffle Fundraiser
We are holding an Easter raffle again this year to raise money for those people who have been impacted by the floods. Donations of Easter eggs or other Eastery things are welcomed! Tickets will be 50c each. Tickets will go on sale in Week 9 and the raffle will be drawn on Friday 8th April.
Term 1 Swimming Program
Hopefully we will be able to hold our swimming lessons again next week!
Students will need to bring swimmers, a towel, goggles, caps (the school can provide swimming caps for those students who don't own one), and sun shirts to school each Thursday for their lesson. PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL SWIMMING GEAR IS LABELED WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME.
There is no extra cost for swimming lessons, as the school covers the pool entry fees and payments to the swim teachers. Please pack swimming gear even if the weather isn't good in the morning, as it could be fine in the afternoon.
Swimming lessons will take place each Thursday in Term 1 (weather permitting) at the following times:
Stage 3 at 1pm
Stage 2 at 1.40pm
K - 2 at 2.20pm
Students will walk to and from the pool. Please note, K - 2 students are to be collected from the pool at the end of the day each Thursday as their lesson will finish at 3:05pm. Due to Covid regulations Tracey has asked that parents pick their children up from outside the pool. K - 2 students catching buses will do so from Dorrigo Public School, supervised by our staff.
