Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
I’ve been visiting classes this week as we engage with our first full week of learning for the school year. Yesterday, I observed our Stage 1 Guided Reading lesson. This is where students read books that are at just the right level for them right now. I was so impressed to see this structure up and running so quickly. I acknowledge Ms Spiteri and her support staff for their work in setting this up so effectively. I also commend the students for their high level of engagement with this important work. It certainly is a key strategy we apply in assisting all children in learning to read.
Yesterday we also discussed and practised our after-school procedures. We walked children to bus lines and discussed our expectations regarding behaviour on the bus. We expect our students to be safe, respectful and responsible when travelling to and from school on the bus.
Similarly, we had a chance to teach the children who get picked up our expectations regarding car park safety. If you have to leave your car to collect your child, we expect your child/children to stay within 1 metre of the parent or carer. This rule enables children to be safe as they walk through the car park. We ask that cars be reverse parked if parking next to the low wall on the northern side. This allows you to drive forwards out of the car park when leaving.
I know our parents and carers are very good at following these rules at pick up time. I thank you for your ongoing cooperation and for keeping our students safe in the car park.
On Monday, we acknowledged the students who trialled for Zone Swimming. We presented ribbons and certificates to our swimming champions. Next week, three students will represent our school at Zone Swimming. We wish them well at this carnival.
Nathan Trezise,
Principal
We are honoured to be on the ancestral lands of the Gumbaynggirr people. We acknowledge the First Australians as the traditional custodians of the continent, whose cultures are among the oldest living cultures in human history. We pay respect to the Elders of the community and extend our recognition to their descendants who are present.
Swimming Awards
Congratulations to the following students, who were presented with swimming awards on Monday:
Harry W - Senior Boys Champion
Abbi M - Senior Girls Champion
Xavier B - Junior Boys Champion

Term 1 Swimming Program
Swimming will commence for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 next Thursday. Swimming is a compulsory part of the PDHPE curriculum.
Students will need to bring swimmers, a towel, goggles, caps (the school can provide swimming caps for those students who don't own one), and sun shirts to school each Thursday for their lesson. There is no extra cost for swimming lessons, as the school covers the pool entry fees and payments to the swim teachers.
Swimming lessons will take place each Thursday in Term 1 (weather permitting) at the following times:
Stage 3 at 1pm
Stage 2 at 1.40pm
K - 2 at 2.20pm
Students will walk to and from the pool. Please note, K - 2 students are to be collected from the pool at the end of the day each Thursday as their lesson will finish at 3:05pm. Due to Covid regulations Tracey has asked that parents pick their children up from outside the pool. K - 2 students catching buses will do so from Dorrigo Public School, supervised by our staff.

Road Safety Newsletter
Families can help keep children safe by:
- Sticking to the speed limit and following the road rules in school zones
- Slowing down to 40km/h when bus lights are flashing
- Looking out for children crossing the road near bus stops, in school zones or along bus routes
- Giving way to buses when they merge back into traffic.
- Never drop off or meet children on the opposite side of the road to the bus stop or call them across the road. Always drop them off or meet them on the same side of the road as the bus stop.
- Encouraging their children to be distraction-free around buses - put down their phone and take off their headphones.
